AGING IN PLACE IN AMBLESIDE
Ambleside, a village within the District of West Vancouver, may be one of the best retirement communities in the country. This seaside community has many shops, services and social activities within a walkable neighbourhood. Aging happily and healthily in place seems very possible here. However, our recent pandemic reminded us of how quickly our lives can change. Many of us who live alone in apartments realized how quickly we can become isolated.
Being a small corner of the larger Metro Vancouver area, we get little coverage of our events from local newspapers or radio or tv stations. Many of us are not using social media to get knowledge of what is happening locally. Often we hear about community events and activities after the fact. There are pockets of knowledge available from various associations who often use posters and email to communicate. This leaves many of us out of the loop.
This is a work in progress; I am learning how to manage this blog as issues arise. At the moment, comments show up as ‘anonymous’. I would still like to hear from people with their thoughts and opinions. I will try to reply as quickly as possible. Besides this page, and the posts over the past few months, I have started a page called “What’s Happening in Ambleside Today”. There you can find links to daily weather and tides, what is playing at Cineplex, and check out and sometimes register for activities at the Library, Senior Centre and Recreation Centre.
This blog is being created to connect with older people in and around Ambleside to start a dialogue on how we can maintain and improve our quality of life and to age in place in an area that we enjoy for as long as we possibly can. It is for people on the Northshore and even in the West End who often find themselves taking advantage of some of the activities in and around Ambleside.
